A young boxer from Bromley & Downham ABC maintained his 100 per cent record by securing the national schoolboy U66kg title at Brentwood Leisure Centre.
Sam Walker, aged 13, stopped Jordan Howard (Benny ABC) in the third round to take one of the high-statuses titles up for grabs as an amateur boxer.
The young pupil from Ravens Wood School, Bromley, fort in the semi-finals a fortnight earlier. After looking very impressive against Darren Townley (City of Gloucester ABC), winning that contest 8-1 by computer scoring, he was very confident in fighting in the final of this prestigious title.
After triumphantly winning his this contest, Walker has been chosen to represent England in the tri-nations contest against Scotland and Wales.
Helping Walker prepare for the fight, by providing sparring sessions, were club members George Jupp, Ashley Surin, Sam Ewen, Jacob Ewen, Alex McKay and Chris Tsiopani.
Not only is Sam a promising boxer, he also plays football for the Coney Hall Under 14s who have backed his boxing triumph all of the way.
“Well done Sam. All your team mates and all at the Club wish you every success with the England Team in the future”
All his family, including his Dad Matt and his Grandad Joe, are rightly very proud of what he has achieved.
We chose to make this our main story as our paper is a local paper, therefore we want to involve the community and what young people have achieved in the area. It is also a sport that a lot of teenagers are interested in, which will hopefully catch their attention to buy the newspaper.
