Target Audience

My newspaper is aimed at a younger target audience than a traditional newspaper would target, the age group I am trying to target is young people from 13-19. It will be aimed at both boys and girls with a social class from C1 downwards however, for a young person to pick up a newspaper it would probably be because they are used to seeing there parents reading newspapers which may mean their parents are C1 or of a higher class. I want to challenge this idea and make young people pick up my newspaper as it appeals to them, what ever their parents class.
To make my newspaper stand out to my target audience it will have to relate to them and their lifestyle, as it is a local paper I will show what is happening in their community with other people their age. The advertising will be a key convention in my newspaper to catch the teenagers attention with adverts of their favourite brands and shops. I can advertise local shops in the community which are popular with my audience, making them interested in the newspaper and getting the community involved.
The psychographic categories my audience are most likely to fall into trendies and drifters, people who admire their peers but don't know exactly what they want.

Newspaper Stories

This was a story found in the News Shopper, it is a local story and shows that young people are helping charity and helping towards the community. It shows the young readers that not all news is bad.

This was also found in the Metro, I feel this would be an important story to include is it is a story about a 17 year old, which is my target audience, it makes the audience aware what is happening in their local area of people their age. It also shows how strong this 17 year old is, even though she is still young.

This story was in the Metro, I feel this would be a good story to use in my newspaper as most teenagers are interested in celebrities and music, and they want to know the latest ‘gossip’ of their favourite celebrity.

This was also found in the Bromley Times, I think that this would be important to a teen based newspaper as a lot of teenage boys are very interested in sport and football, and it is also supporting the local team of players who are also young adults.

This was a story I found in the Bromley Times, I feel this story would appeal to my target audience of teenagers and students as this man was a student himself, I think it is important to show teenagers these kind of stories as it makes them aware of murderers and the things that can happen to them at their age.
